Jyotish is supposed to show us the path of our life; it is not meant for twisting the path as per our desires.

Secrets of Kaalsarpa Dosh

When we utter the word ‘Kaalsarpa’ it sends a chill down the spine of the person who has it in the chart thinking that his / her life is completely ruined. Let us see what it is exactly.

Kaalsarpa Yoga or Dosh is formed when all the planets are situated between Rahu and Ketu in a chart. It appears as if Rahu (the mouth of the serpent) has swallowed all the planets and they are hemmed between Rahu and Ketu. The name ‘Kaalsarpa’ has come from the Sanskrit word ‘Kaal’ meaning ‘time’; ‘Sarpa’ means ‘serpent’. The planetary energies in this placement are confined between the two ends of the serpent representing time and Karma.

There is a definite struggle associated with this yoga in the early years of the life, precisely up to 35 years. However, in reality many a times this configuration gives immense wealth, popularity and successful political career. You would be surprised to know that many world famous personalities have Kaalsarpa Yoga in their charts; to name a few, Sachin Tendulkar, Dheerubhai Ambani, Lata Mangeshkar, Jawahar Lal Nehru, Ronald Regan, Abraham Lincoln…well the list is quite long.

So why do we call this yoga dreadful? The human life is meant for discovering spiritual destiny through its existence and experience on earth. Since people with Kaalsarpa yoga deviates from the true spiritual path and run after materialistic pursuits, is considered a Dosh from that angle. Additionally Rahu and Ketu’s impact on the hemmed between planets can also jeopardise their ability to give benefic results in some situations and make the native suffer till the age of 35.

Kaalsarpa Yoga can be total or partial. When all the planets are hemmed between Rahu and Ketu, it is called the Total Kaalsarpa Dosh; when Moon comes out from the periphery of Rahu-Ketu axis, it is called Partial Kaalsarpa Dosh.

One note of caution, do not confuse Kaalsarpa with ‘KaalAmrita’ Yoga. KaalAmrita yoga forms when planets are hemmed between Ketu and Rahu, not between Rahu and Ketu. Here it appears as if all the planets are moving towards Ketu. This yoga is excellent for seekers of spirituality.
